Bobcat Goldthwait was the guy with the stupid voice in the Police Academy movies. But he's proven himself to be a highly competent writer and director with this pretty dark comedy. A wannabe writer (teaching at a school) has an extremely strained relationship with his son, who disrespects him constantly.

He is romantically involved with a colleague, but he is constantly outshined by another more macho teacher whose writing success eclipses his.

After a sudden and unforeseen tragedy, things start falling into place for the wanna-be author.

An oddly amusing and rather original movie placing Williams in a great position to tone it down, but by no means losing his fine acting skills and sharp humour.
