ZARDOZ
With Sean Connery, Charlotte Rampling Directed by John Boorman
This very strange futuristic movie with a Wizard Of Oz Twist sees a world
ruled by oppression and myths taken as law. Guns are used without restraint. Connery
plays a man who starts questioning all of that which is supposed to be accepted
as he journeys towards the truth. Bizarre and trippy at times, this is not your
run of the mill sci-fi movie. Sometimes subtle, on other occasions more blatant,
Boorman likes to incorporate a mind-altering state, be it magic, chemical or natural
- it happens here as well. Strange movie that has dated a bit, but is still interesting
to watch. 4 / B - PB ZOOLANDER
With Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Jerry Stiller, Milla Jovovich, David Duchovny
Directed by Ben Stiller Stiller could either damage his reputation with
this totally stoopid comedy or get a slap on the back for not taking himself too
seriously. This VH-1 created character of a dumb male model is a fun ride but
about as shallow as the supermodel himself. Our model in question, Derek Zoolander
becomes part of a plot to assassinate an Eastern head of state in order to overturn
the ban on child labour - the means by which most of the huge fashion houses make
their money. A string of music & movie celebs jump in and play along, but it's
about as instant entertainment as the music videos on the channel that gave birth
to this ridiculous character. A few laughs are not enough, though… 2 /
