December 2005 Update
The first ever VENUS RISING Show was a killer.
We went up against a multitude events on probably one of the busiest evenings
of the season with the MCQP, Alien Safari and loads of other clubs and venues
putting on high profile events, including free shows, album launches, bands and
artists. Obviously the Venus Rising Show was not low profile as
a more than merely decent crowd filed into the Mercury to make it one hell of
a night. Thanks to the bands, the venue, the fans and supporters who came,
and everyone who spread the word. Updates on the next one can be found here
once we get it going.

The
VENUS RISING Show is the first in an ongoing series, its main concept being the
grouping of bands with female vocalists from across the rock-, alternative- and
pop spectra whose bite match their bark.
L-R:
Karen (Mitsoo), Sonja (Terminatryx), Inge (Lark) |
For
this debut show the impressive and far reaching groups selected to set the stage
alight will include LARK, TERMINATRYX and MITSOO.
LARK
has grown from strength to strength, becoming an incredible electronic mood-piece
where gothic-eklecto meets industrial glitch-opera. With no limit to influences
meandering through their well-written songs the group encapsulates an amazing
audio experience. They recently returned from abroad where they wowed audiences.
LARK is fronted by Inge, whose versatile voice is something to behold. www.LARK.co.za
TERMINATRYX
made their live debut in 2003 across South Africa when they were chosen to perform
as opening act for acclaimed German darkwave alternative group Diary Of Dreams
on their South African tour. Sonja is the striking vocalist for the powerful electronically
infused industrial-metal-rock outfit TERMINATRYX, her towering figure commanding
the stage without effort. www.TERMINATRYX.com
MITSOO
is an all-girl group whose pop-punk flavour has made for many lively shows over
the last few years with both male and female fans returning every time as their
supporters keep on growing. www.MITSOOLAND.com
Future
dates for The VENUS RISING Shows will also (as far as possible) coincide with
high profile events like Women's Day and 16 Days Of Activism against women and
child abuse. A
variety of female fronted bands, groups and artists will be rotated and the event
will be taken to other parts of South Africa, exposing local audiences to some
of the great bands out there with female vocalists in the male dominated realm
of rock. Eventually we'd like to incorporate
it with an international artist headlining with the local acts.
Stay
tuned for future events.
